EPIC BUILD: Off-Roading College Student Converts School Bus Into Camper And Toy Hauler Combo For His Jeep

EPIC BUILD: Off-Roading College Student Converts School Bus Into Camper And Toy Hauler Combo For His Jeep

I’m a fan of schoolies, and really like the ones that guys are making into schoolie toy haulers. If you don’t know what a schoolie is, it is a converted school bus rv. Take one cheap and well maintained school bus, gut it, fill it with all the amenities you want, and then drive around have a great time in it. We’ve seen party schoolies, long term living schoolies, and of course toy hauler schoolies like this one. As a fan of ramp trucks, it is hard not to like the schoolie version of a ramp truck, which is exactly what this one is. In this video you’ll get a full tour of the build, the features, the Jeep it carries, and more, from the kid that built it. I say kid, because he’s a college student that is seriously ate up with off-roading his Jeep so he built this as the ultimate toy hauler and sleeping spot for his trips. I love it.

The modifications are simple, there isn’t a ton of money in the thing, and the setup for hauling his custom Jeep is perfect for the task. This is by far not the fanciest schoolie we’ve ever seen, but we dig the simplicity and comfortable feel of it. I’d sleep in this sucker out at a trail event anytime.

Will This Old American LaFrance Fire Truck Make The Ultimate Toy Hauler? This Is Going To Be Good!

Will This Old American LaFrance Fire Truck Make The Ultimate Toy Hauler? This Is Going To Be Good!

On more than one occasion I’ve seen an old American LaFrance fire truck and thought, man that could make a great ramp truck. I’ve even had the chance to buy a few old fire trucks for dirt cheap prices on a few occasions. Thankfully, I have not had the space, or spousal understanding, to allow the purchase of any of them so they aren’t piled up with all my other unfinished crap. But once the new property is all sorted out and the shop and house builds are done, maybe just maybe there needs to be a fire truck in my future. After all, seeing the boys at Grind Hard Plumbing Co. having fun with their new one is kind of inspiring.

So here is the plan.

This is a 1965 American LaFrance 900 Series Pumper fire truck that is in working order, but with the right removal of parts there would be much more room for activities and toys, including parking a full tilt 4×4 truck on the top of this sucker. The 608 cubic inch inline 6 is backed by a low gear plus 4 manual transmission and it is way heavy duty. Not fast, but heavy duty. An engine and trans swap just might be in order as well.

Watch and enjoy.

Workhorses Of Industry: This Promotional Film Shows Why Jeeps Were The Most Versatile Trucks Ever Made

Workhorses Of Industry: This Promotional Film Shows Why Jeeps Were The Most Versatile Trucks Ever Made

In the realm of old promotional videos, this one from Willys-Overland that shows all of the incredible things that Jeeps were used for in their heyday ranks among the coolest that we have ever seen. While it begins with a short sales pitch as to why the new “universal” Jeep is better and stronger than the ones that have come before it, the video then shows the “new” Jeep pickup, Willys station wagon, and Willys panel truck some 4×4 and some 4×2. After that is when the good stuff starts. You’ll see Jeeps with trenching units hanging off the back, Jeeps towing airplanes, Jeeps with PTO driven welders and chainsaws, etc. They were literally Swiss Army Knives on wheels and there was a whole industry developed around making attachments and implements for them. Yes, the Germans have their Unimogs and they are neat, but the Jeep’s compact size and pluggy little four banger engine allowed it to be used for jobs that a Unimog could never even consider doing.

The section with the “gas station owner” talking about plowing, towing, and pushing cars with it is great and the whole video kind of left us with the question of, “Why did they stop making these again?” Honestly, watch this film and think about it. Yes, the little Jeep is quaint by today’s standards but in all of the jobs you’ll see it do, what do we have today that does them that much better and more efficiently than a Jeep was capable of doing them? Stuff may be more complicated and comfortable for the driver but that doesn’t really mean that it is any better in a practical sense.

This is a super great video, especially if you love old Jeeps as much as we do!
